Linnodee Diagnostics was founded in 1999 by the late Dr. Ernest F Logan OBE, and the laboratory is accredited to ISO9001:2015 and EN ISO13485:2016. It is primarily a research diagnostics company that focuses on manufacturing products for the detection of Leptospirosis in humans and animals, which is a zoonotic disease caused by bacteria from the genus Leptospira. The disease is prevalent worldwide, and in animals, it is typically transmitted through urine or body fluids of infected animals. In humans, transmission can occur through contact with contaminated water, food, or soil.
Leptospirosis is a significant cause of economic losses in the agriculture industry, leading to reduced milk production, abortions, stillbirths, and reduced fertility. Infected animals typically do not show symptoms of Leptospirosis, underscoring the importance of regular screening for disease detection, surveillance, and control. Given that Leptospirosis is zoonotic, it also poses a considerable risk of infection for those working with infected animals.
Linnodee's range of veterinary diagnostic kits includes the Bovine Leptospira Hardjo ELISA Kit, which detects L.Hardjo-specific antibodies in milk and sera within 80 minutes. The kit's sensitivity is 94.1%, with specificity at 94.8%, and is available in the form of solid plates (5 plate kit) or strip plates (2 plate kit and 5 plate kit). Additionally, Linnodee produces a Porcine Leptospira Bratislava ELISA Kit, which detects L.Bratislava-specific antibodies in serum within 180 minutes. The kit's sensitivity is 96.1%, with specificity at 93.8%, and is available in the form of solid or strip plates.
Leptospirosis can manifest in humans with a range of symptoms, including high fever, muscle aches, headache, vomiting, and jaundice, making it difficult to distinguish from other acute bacterial and viral infections. Thus, the leptospirosis screening tests offered by Linnodee Diagnostics are critical for an accurate diagnosis. Leptospirosis infections in humans can cause life-threatening complications, such as organ failure and internal bleeding, which can lead to death. Therefore, rapid diagnosis is crucial for preventing these adverse outcomes.
Linnodee's human diagnostic test kit, Leptorapide, is a simple yet accurate one-step test that detects the presence of Leptospira-specific antibodies in human sera within 5 minutes. The agglutination test comprises an antigenic bead complex, which, when mixed with positive sera, undergoes interlinking, resulting in visible agglutination. A positive or negative result can be determined using the agglutination scale included in the kit. The kit's sensitivity is 90.9%, with specificity at 95.2%, and is available in various test quantities, including 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 tests.
Linnodee Diagnostics has expanded its manufacturing capabilities and expertise by investing in research on a Leptospirosis detection Lateral Flow device for humans. This endeavor entails Linnodee Diagnostics establishing Lateral Flow manufacturing facilities and providing Lateral Flow training. Lateral Flow devices are rapid, straightforward immunoassay-based testing platforms that utilize immune-chromatographic technology to detect the presence of a target analyte in a sample without the need for specialized and costly equipment. Linnodee is in the advanced stages of developing this Lateral Flow device as an addition to its array of products for detecting Leptospirosis.
